Clay Matters – a Masterclass with Felicity Aylieff
This course is for those makers who already have experience from ceramic work, professionals or students or experienced amateurs…, but want to have the opportunity for experiment and discussion, to build their confidence and stretch and extend their existing knowledge.
The focus of this workshop will be on the different ways to develop and translate ideas, working with a range of making techniques and surface finishes. It will operate on a ’one to one’ tutorial basis with students working on their individual proposals or projects and regularly coming together for group discussions.
There will be practical demonstrations that explore making and decorating skills, often responding to individual enquiry and problem solving and shared across the group.
Makers should come with a Powerpoint presentation of 10 images for a Pecha Kucha style introduction of themselves, and their work, to the group on the first day. It would also be useful to bring any sketchbooks or imagery for initial conversations, along with personal tools.
Felicity Aylieff is an artist of international standing recognised for her research into large scale ceramics. Working from her studio in Bath for more than 3 decades, she has more recently developed a collaborative relationship with manufactories in Jingdezhen, China where she makes monumental pots. The surfaces of these pots explore contemporary translations of traditionally used techniques. More about Felicity Aylieff and her work at http://www.aylieff.com/
